PiezoWave Therapy: Precision Treatment for Pain and Recovery
At Prime PT Specialists, we combine hands-on therapy, individualized exercise, and innovative treatment options to help patients reduce pain, improve movement, and return to the activities they enjoy. PiezoWave therapy is a non-invasive treatment option for a variety of musculoskeletal conditions to help patients manage pain and progress through rehabilitation.

What Is PiezoWave Therapy?
PiezoWave is a focused shockwave therapy system that delivers mechanical acoustic waves to targeted areas of the body. One of its benefits is the ability to target specific tissues and treatment depths based on the patient's condition and goals.
This mechanical stimulus may influence local tissue responses, pain signaling, circulation, and tissue remodeling. Research on shockwave therapy has demonstrated benefits for several musculoskeletal conditions, although results can vary depending on the condition and treatment approach.
Unlike therapeutic ultrasound, which primarily uses high-frequency sound waves, PiezoWave delivers higher-intensity mechanical pressure waves to create a targeted mechanical stimulus.
PiezoWave is non-invasive and does not require injections, medications, or surgery.
What Can PiezoWave Be Used For?
Shockwave therapy has been studied for a variety of orthopedic and musculoskeletal conditions, with particularly strong clinical use in several tendinopathies and other chronic or persistent musculoskeletal problems.
At Prime PT Specialists, PiezoWave may be incorporated into treatment for:
Tendinopathy
Plantar fasciitis
Tennis or golfer's elbow
Achilles or patellar tendon pain
Calcific shoulder conditions
Greater trochanteric pain
Myofascial pain and trigger points
Muscle and soft-tissue pain
Certain chronic musculoskeletal pain conditions
What Can You Expect During Treatment?
During treatment, your physical therapist applies gel to the skin and places the PiezoWave applicator over the treatment area. You may feel pressure, tapping, or a deep pulsing sensation. Treatment intensity can be adjusted based on your comfort and treatment goals.
Some patients may experience temporary soreness, tenderness, or redness following treatment.
PiezoWave can be incorporated into your physical therapy plan or scheduled as a stand-alone, cash-pay treatment for patients who are looking for targeted pain and recovery support.
Is PiezoWave Right for You?
Every patient and diagnosis is different. Shockwave therapy is not appropriate for everyone, and certain medical conditions, medications, or other factors may require additional consideration before treatment.
Your physical therapist will evaluate your symptoms, medical history, and treatment goals to determine whether PiezoWave is appropriate for you.
